History

The Thomas Township Fire Department was established in September of 1963 by a group of 32 devoted individuals wanting to provide better fire protection for their growing community. At the time of inception, the fire department consisted of two stations with three pieces of equipment between them. In the last few months of 1963 our department responded to a total of 15 emergency calls. During the first full year of 1964 we responded to 58 emergency calls.

Over the years Thomas Township has grown immensely.  We still respond out of two stations, but we have added five pieces of equipment along the way to bring our apparatus total to eight. The original equipment has been retired for many years.  In addition to our fire and medical equipment we have a boat, quad and an administrative vehicle.

Currently our staff consists of approximately 30 dedicated paid on call fire fighters who take great pride in providing fire protection and medical first response to the nearly 12,000 residents that call Thomas Township home.  of Station One is home to Rescue-1, Engine-1, Truck-1, Brush-1, Boat-1 and Squad-1. Station 2 is home to  Rescue-2, Engine-2 and Tender-2, Squad-2 and Quad-2.  In addition to our paid on call staff, the Thomas Township Fire Department employs a full-time Chief, a four full-time First Responders, and a part-time Administrative Assistant.
