Thomas Township Ordinance Number 93-G-1 requires the annual licensing of every business in the Township each December 15th. Upon receipt of an application, the Planning/Zoning Department will process it and issue you a current Thomas Township Business License.
For new businesses, an application can be obtained from the Planning Assistant’s office. Completed forms should be returned along with a $10 processing fee, which covers inspections by the Building, Zoning, Fire, and Public Works departments. When all departments approve an application, a license is mailed to the business.
The purpose of this program is to assist the Township with information to provide businesses with better police and fire protection. The information on this application provides the police department with emergency numbers in case of a burglary, destruction of property, etc. In case of a fire, it aids the fire department by providing them with emergency names, numbers, and the number of employees in the building. This information also helps the Township with fair and uniform public utility services and informed planning of Township land use. The effectiveness of this ordinance depends upon the full cooperation of every business owner within the Township. New to the form this year is a space for an after hours emergency phone number. This space MUST be filled out to help our Police and Fire Departments locate the correct person in the event of an after hours incident.
In addition to the Business License requirements, prior to making any changes to a commercial business, your first call should be to the Thomas Township Building Department at 989-781-0150. Simply explain what changes you are planning and our staff will assist you in securing the necessary permits prior to having the work completed. This includes work outside the building as well, such as paving a parking lot, removing landscaping or installing a new sign.
