Garbage/Refuse Pickup and Recycling     

Thomas Township is one of the founding members of the Mid-Michigan Waste Authority (MMWA) which consists of 34 communities.  Through the MMWA, Thomas Township contracts for garbage/refuse removal and recycling on Fridays for single and two family housing units only.  If you have questions about this service call MMWA at 989-781-9555.  You can also fax your questions to 989.781-9559 or e-mail at MMWA1991@yahoo.com.

Brush Collection

The garbage/refuse hauler will pick up no more than one bundle of brush per week during the regular garbage/refuse pick up day.  Brush must be tied and neatly bundled.  It cannot be wider than twenty four (24") inches in diameter nor longer than four (4')feet.

Brush Drop Off Site

Brush may be taken to the Thomas Township brush drop off site located at the northwest corner of Gleaner Road and Frost Road when site is open.  No stumps, leaves, grass or commercial brush will be accepted.  You must be a Thomas Township resident to drop off brush.

Yard waste pick-up will begin the first Friday in April, and will continue through the last Friday in November.

Regulations

Residents are reminded to follow the regulations regarding municipal refuse collection including:

bulletPlacing refuse in garbage cans or bags
bulletPlacing recyclables in bins designed for that purpose or in a rigid, open container with "recyclables" label attached. Labels are available at township office.
bulletAllowing a 3 ft. separation between refuse, recyclables and yard waste to make identification and collection easier and faster.
bulletKeep container total weight below 50 pounds.
bulletDon’t allow materials to protrude more than a six inches from containers.
bulletHave items at curb by 7 a.m.
bulletDon’t place items at curb more than 24 hours in advance.
