The Thomas Township Fire Department was established in
September of 1963 by a group of Thirty-Two (32) devoted individuals wanting to
provide better fire protection for their growing community. At the time of our
inception the fire department consisted of Two (2) stations with Three (3)
pieces of equipment between them. In the last couple months of 1963 our
department responded to a total of Fifteen (15) emergency calls. During
the first full year (1964) of servicing Thomas Township we responded to
Fifty-Eight (58) emergency calls.
Over the last 38 years Thomas Township has
grown immensely, we still respond out of Two (2) stations, but we have added
Five (5) pieces of equipment along the way to bring our apparatus total to Eight
(8). In addition to our fire and medical equipment we have One (1) boat, and One (1)
administrative vehicle.
Currently our staff consists of Thirty-Four
(34) highly dedicated paid on call fire fighters who take great pride in
providing fire protection and medical first response to the nearly 13,000
residents that call Thomas Township home. Responding out of Station 1 are
Twenty (20)
fire fighters, Rescue-1, Engine-1, Truck-1, Brush-1, and Squad-1. Station 2 consists of Nine (9) fire fighters, Rescue-2,
Engine-2, Tender-2 and a boat. In addition to our paid on call staff the
Thomas Township Fire Department employs a full time Chief, a part time Deputy
Chief, a full time Fire Inspector, a part time Fire Inspector and an Administrative
Assistant.
